I have programmed in Visual C++. There it was possible to create Icons used in the above the menu and in the program tray at the bottom of the screen , and to start a program for somewhere on the screen. Sorry if I don't use correct names but I am not fully aware what names I must use. I want The same facilities for in my program. At this moment I get only the Gtk blocks in the items. I already have found a program with which I can created them but I still have the following questions:

1. How can I give these icons a place in my program. That means how must I read these .ICO files.
2. Which formats must these Icons have.
3. Are there somewhere good tutorials or examples

I am using Gtk3.
