We are currently running GTK 3.6.4 on an arm embedded device running Fedora 18 Linux with X11 window system. The touch screen display that we are using defaults to landscape orientation (800 x 600) but we need to display in portrait mode (600x800). All of our windows and widgets are designed for the 600x800 orientation and we use the xorg configuration to rotate the display so the windows display correctly. We are using the fbdev framebuffer driver.

Part of our GUI display uses fast blinking widgets that blink at a 500ms(2 Htz) rate. For some reason if we display in landscape these blinking widgets display perfectly fine. However when we rotate the display using the xorg configuration file, we get strange tearing artifacts while these widgets are blinking. Its almost like the vertical or horizontal synch used to match the displays refresh rate is now incorrect because we have rotated the screen. I posted this in the GTK forum because I am not sure if the issue is in GTK(GDK backend) or with how the driver is doing the rotation or what. I was hoping someone has experienced this issue when rotating the screen and could help me out. Any insight would be useful. Really appreciate the help.

This is probably not a GTK problem, but a driver problem. Have you checked that the rotation is done in software or hardware and that it is synchronised with the scan of the display.
