custom cairo/container widget

Hi, I would like to know how to write a cairo widget that will draw tournament style brackets (the drawing code isn't my problem) and then allow the use of puting labels on top of it (like a GtkContainer), that's my problem, how do I write a widget that allows me to do drawing code, and still allow packing on top of it? I am using C. Thank you...

What you want to do is embedded gtk+ widgets in a cairo canvas. now i am not exactly sure how to do this but there is a gtk+ canvas library that will allow you to do this.

Goocanvas

GooCanvas is a new canvas widget for GTK+ that uses the cairo 2D library for drawing. It has a model/view split, and uses interfaces for canvas items and views, so you can easily turn any application object into canvas items.

okay, I've downloaded it and ran ./configure using cygwin, it configured and created a Makefile, so I type make, it compiles for awhile, but when it gets to linking (I think that it's near or at the end of the compilation) it gives an error saying that grep can't find '/usr/lib/libiconv.la', does anyone know where I can find this file? thanks...

okay, I downloaded and compiled iconv, now I have a new problem.
my initial command to cygwin is:

./configure --host=i686-pc-mingw32 --build=i686-pc-cygwin CC='gcc -mno-cygwin' host_alias=i686-pc-mingw32

after it generates a Makefile, I type make, after while of compiling and after linking to libiconv.la it starts to compile the demo stuff...

It looks like cygwin's Standard C Library is messed up but don't quote me on that i don't use windows so i could be wrong.

On a side note your trying to develop applications with library's that were not meant for windows in any situation for the most part your going to have problems if you want to develop with library's meant for gnu/linux then spit your partition and install ubuntu or something or download vmware server and install a linux distro on that its free.

I have a kubuntu partition, but I'm writing this program for my brother who doesn't use linux, so I need to use windows, is there any way I can fix this so that it works for windows, possibly use MSYS instead of cygwin? thank you for your replies...
