Um, C++ please. C is ok but a bit of an issue if you like to use patterns. Anything over the state machine and the other simpler ones is a challenge. Python?? Python is an abhorrent unholy horror and I don't use it short of a gun pointed at me.

I prefer java since it was the only one in here taught in high school - a technology school so I used it since it's easy and also, I get to make sense of my computer subjects in high school.

I am missing Ada in the list. I prefer that language because it is a very strict language and in pricipal operating system or compilerbuilder independent. I understand that Gtk is also pretending to be that independent.

Andrew,
When are you going to publish a Gtk+3.0 version of your book? So much of the current edition contains deprecated methods it is now just barely a starting place for a new Gtk+ user.

Just throwing in a vote for a language that isn't on your list: Pike! Chances are you've never heard of it, but it's a language with Python-like semantics and C-like syntax... and GTK1/GTK2 support (GTK3 planned but not yet supported).

I have never liked C, in fact, I have always hated it.

I hate every aspect of it lol. From the pointer to a pointer to a pointer madness to 0-terminated strings to header files to the naming conventions to everything...

Only time I have ever used C was for University course on network programming, and one time to write a little format converter for my address books on some Debian shell server.

Languages of choice for me have been basic, pascal, java, php and now also python. I would probably never go back to either basic or pascal, but I still use Java it's just real slow compared to PHP to get something done.

So I have never used GTK in anything other than Python. But I would probably never have a need for it in Java (or PHP... how PHP figures into client-side applications is beyond my ability to comprehend).
