I'm sure someone must have already done this... what is the most straightforward way to emulate a NeXTstep style menu? Menubars certainly don't. I could do a vbox filled with buttons, but then I don't get tearoff menu's (although I could live without them). I've tried putting menuitems into a menu and then the menu into a vbox, but that gives an error.

No takers so far... I gave up on doing it with menu's and menuitem's and have gotten pretty far with buttons and vbox's. Still having trouble with the focus though. I have tool top descriptions of buttons, but the first one in the vbox is selected by default and I have to click on any of the others to get a focus... which doesn't let me see the message attached to the tool tip. I would expect focus would follow the mouse and it appears to do so... but tool tip messages seem to only happen on selected items.

Ah, well. Seems like you are pretty much on your own in the GTK2 world, so back to trial and error...

Solved. Just a misnaming a one of many, many object pointers led to my tooltips working strangely. So, I sort of have NeXT like menu's, at least for a depth of one level. Might get more interesting when I try to do a second level.
